Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our matching process, qualified tutors, safety standards, and pricing.

How does the tutor matching process work?

When you complete our 2-minute request form, our placement coordinators evaluate your learner’s grade, curriculum (CAPS/IEB/Cambridge), specific trouble areas, and neighbourhood location. We filter through our network of over 16,000 vetted tutors and match you with the best candidate within 24 to 48 hours.

Are lessons in-person at home or online?

You choose whatever format suits your family best! We provide in-person one-on-one tutoring in the comfort of your own home across all major South African metropolitan areas (Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, Gqeberha, East London), as well as interactive 1-on-1 online sessions with digital whiteboards for students anywhere in South Africa.

How are tutors vetted and screened?

Every tutor undergoes our strict 4-tier verification protocol: South African smart ID / legal passport verification, verified academic transcripts (minimum 80%+ matric distinction or top university degree marks), criminal background checks against the Child Protection Register, and an individual pedagogical interview.

What if the tutor isn't the right fit?

We offer an unconditional 100% Satisfaction & Replacement Guarantee. If the student and tutor personality do not click after the first session, simply notify our support team and we will assign a different tutor at zero extra placement fee.

What curriculums and grades do you tutor?

We cover Grade 1 through Matric Grade 12 as well as first, second, and third-year university undergraduate modules. Curriculums supported include DBE CAPS, IEB, Cambridge (IGCSE, AS & A-Level), SACAI, and leading homeschooling frameworks including Impaq, Brainline, Clonard, and CambriLearn.

What happens if we need to reschedule a lesson?

We understand student schedules can change. Lessons may be rescheduled without charge by providing your tutor and our coordinator with at least 24 hours advance notice.

How does billing and payment work?

Tutoring hours are billed centrally and transparently through Tutors SA at the end of each billing cycle or via flexible monthly packages. You never have to handle cash transactions directly with the tutor.

How do I apply to become a tutor?

If you are a university student, graduate, or qualified educator with distinctions in high school or university subjects, visit our Become a Tutor page to submit your application, CV, and academic transcripts.
